Cryptograms – Short, Sharp Logic Games

Recently, I was solving puzzles in a new book that I had received as a birthday present, when I came across a cryptogram.   I have heard of this type of puzzle, but had never solved one.

If you are in the same position, you are in for a treat.  Cryptograms are a lot of fun and, I would say addictive.  Once you start, you simply have to sit there until you have cracked the code!  They can really be described as ‘detective puzzles’.

Crazy For Crosswords

In the case of the puzzle I solved, each letter of the alphabet used had been replaced with another.  You need to look at the patterns in the letters and then use your logic skills and knowledge of the English language to decipher the words.  Essentially, they are a shortened version of the codeword/codebreaker puzzle, which as you know, is a firm favourite here at the Clue Detective Puzzle Agency!

The thing I was most excited about with the cryptograms is that not only are they satisfying to solve, they are also great fun to write.  Because they are short and sharp, they lend themselves very well to quotations, book and movie titles and names of famous people.

From  now on, cryptograms will be a regular feature in the Clue Detective Online Puzzle Portal, and look out for a new one on our Facebook page  every Friday.
