Catherine is an Australian puzzle writer, and the founder of the Clue Detective Puzzle Agency.  She founded the Clue Detective Puzzle Agency in 2006, and enjoys writing (non-cryptic) crosswords and codewords (reverse crosswords or codebreakers).

Catherine is the author of Crack the Codeword 1 : 48 Brainteasing Puzzles to Improve Your Knowledge and Increase Your Word Power.  Since 2010, she has written codeword puzzles for the (Summer) Sydney Morning Herald.

Catherine is passionate about showing people how to discover the benefits of puzzling, and that by solving them they can improve their knowledge, word power and health and well-being; not to mention being a fun, intellectually challenging activity.  She runs a weekly club at the Portarlington Neighbourhood House, where a group of stalwart puzzlers gather to solve cryptics, general knowledge crosswords and codewords.  There is much laughter and learning along the way.

Catherine lives on the Bellarine Peninsula, near Geelong with her husband Alex. When not involved with puzzles, her she enjoys fundraising for good causes, travelling, cooking, knitting for her four nephews and niece, and reading detective fiction.

Cryptic Crossword Setter

Denise is an Australian puzzle writer. She creates a wide range of puzzles, from mazes and dot-to-dots to word searches and crosswords, cryptic and non-cryptic.

Denise writes cryptics under the pseudonym of Nixie.  The Clue Detective Puzzle Agency site is the only place in the world puzzlers can access her Nixie cryptics on a regular basis.

Denise has over eight puzzle books in print, including The Canberra Puzzle BookCracking Codes and Cryptograms For Dummies, and Solving Cryptic Crosswords For Dummiesand her puzzles have appeared in a wide range of publications internationally.

Her business, Sutherland Studios, now puts out puzzle apps, including the popular Crosswords for Kids collection, and the unique CrypticGuide app.

In 2013 Denise had a regular radio segment on ABC NSW Statewide Afternoons, chatting with host Chris Coleman about crosswords and setting clues for the audience.

When not writing cryptic crosswords or other puzzles, Denise works as a professional indexer (someone who creates the indexes at the back of books), author, and graphic designer. She is the President of the ACT Region Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers.

Denise lives in Canberra with her astrophysicist husband, two adult children, and two adorable chihuahuas. Her hobbies include knitting, gourmet cooking, reading and watching murder mysteries, and watercolour painting.
